They look nice from a distance but I wish they had something on top of the diode to direct more of the light to the sides. I needed light on a small narrow step down to a side dock which is narrower than the main dock. So I needed the light to highlight where the step down is as well as where the edges of the dock are because the dock starts wide then narrows down. These lights aren’t ideal for this condition. You can see exactly where the step is but once you look down your blinded by the LED making it difficult to see the edge of the dock beyond the LED. These lights are probably great for many other applications but not for what I needed.

I placed them 6 1/2 inches away from the edge and behind the running board of the bulkhead because I didn't want the bottom of the light to be shown on the water side (deck sticks out like 4" past runner)( lights are only like 2" tall). Lights are pretty flush and maybe stick up a quarter of an inch and hardly noticeable. you wont trip over them by any means and even if you step on them with bare feet you will not stub your toe as they are rounded.
I used a 1 & 3/8" speed bit that worked very well on the composite decking. The lights didn't fit snug where I feel if water was to rise they would pop out, however, they slide right in where I can use my finger nail to pull them up. I may try to use a little clear silicone to hold them down where I can maybe pry them up if I need to remove them for either the winter or to replace the battery.
I was going to use 2 lights between each piling and close to the pilings themselves, but didn't want light shown on the pilings (make sense?).
Anyways, I have to say that I think they look great. A Nice faint look to them. Not to bright and not to dim. Just right to outline the edges or a pathway. Will get more to do my outdoor stairs.
Also, I ordered these a few months ago and they stayed in the box until today, which I thought the battery would not have stayed charged. Have to say that all 8 worked after a few hours on a cloudy day. I expect that the lights will last a while considering the price.
I used one light to put into the picnic table where the umbrella would be and it sat flush.

To the week, a year ago, these same Dock Dots were under 8’ of salt water
from Hurricane Michael! I lost some from the destruction of the dock then,
but found many of them at night from their green glow scattered everywhere
after the hurricane!
I guess you could say that I’m sold on them. Most of these are about seven
years old.

Hurricane Hermine came through my area and took my floating dock away, I searched but never could find it.
31 months later I was looking at Google maps and noticed an odd shape in the middle of a heavily thick saw grass island. I went out searching and even knowing where I thought it was I was still unable to locate it.
I went back out late in the afternoon (high tide) and as it got dark I could see a faint green glow, sure enough 2 of the 4 lights were still working and I was able to locate my dock.

Immediately after installing the first battery, the first dot came on... super cool. After all eight batteries were installed, four of the eight dots were not working. I panicked a bit, as I read most of the reviews and I had decided for myself that these things were a mixed bag of functional and non-functional.
Regardless, I set them outside and gave them a full day under the Kansas sunshine, and that evening I was rewarded with eight glowing dots.
Our dock is almost complete and i can't wait to install the dots! I am almost certain I'm going to get another eight so that I can line all 36 ft of the dock with them. They're a solid product, and as a guy who tries hard to buy American-made whenever possible - which is hardly ever anymore, sadly - I do appreciate the "designed in America" disclaimer on the front of the packaging.
Thanks, Lake Lite, for a great product.

It is a little difficult to show these in photos so trust me they look better in person. I posted some with flash on and off for you to view.
I am in a saltwater environment so longevity of these lights will be the true test. Based on my environment and how they look, I would be happy with a 2 year life span. Time will tell.
I think they are a little expensive, however I do like them....so if they last a while I would say they are worth it.

The lights provide great marking as I come into my dock at night. In addition, the amber lights keep the bugs away and therefore keep spiders population way down. I strongly recommend these lights. As a side note: because the lights fit into a hole you make in your decking, waves can push them out from the bottom. Use a piece of electric tape around the lights to improve friction fit. You will love them!

Later that evening, despite the rain, I wanted to position to where I would place them. Look great and classy on that main staircase. For a side staircase, I needed two on the top step. They did not work.
I contacted Lake Lite today and we exchanged emails about what I had done to make the two work. Once I responded to Keith that I had done all that he had requested, he told me that the two replacement were already being shipped out. I go notice right after that - this morning - that the package was being shipped out by USPS.
Ok, you can always expect something to fail, especially ordering several of them. So the question comes down to how true and fast a company come through for you. I give 'em 5 stars!!
Thanks
